Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy right for me?

A therapist can help provide insight, support and new techniques or ideas to help navigate the challenges in life. Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in looking internally, developing greater self-awareness, and working toward living the life they envision for themselves. The relationship with your therapist is pivotal and should feel supportive and engaged.

What should I expect from my first therapy session?

Initially before we meet, you’re asked to provide demographic information along with reviewing and signing practice and policy documents, a confidentiality agreement and payment information.  An active credit card must be provided.  All major credit cards are accepted.  You will be asked to return these documents in a timely manner.  Once received, they will be reviewed and you will be contacted to discuss making an appointment with Dr. Librie.

During your first session we will complete an assessment that will help us to get acquainted and to discuss the goals you would like to achieve in psychotherapy.  We will further review practice and policy documents, discuss expectations, confidentiality and payment.  The assessment is an opportunity to learn if we are a “good match” and you are encouraged to ask any questions you may have.

How does virtual therapy work?

You are sent a secure link to a video platform that can be used on your computer, or downloaded as an app onto your phone. Your therapist will meet you in the therapy room and you will proceed much as you would in an office session. Please make sure to check your internet and connection.

Is everything I say in therapy confidential?

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communication between a client and therapist. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client.

There are some exceptions required by law to this rule.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, therapists are mandated by law to file a report with the appropriate state agency.

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to work with a client to ensure safety. However, there are times when the therapist may be obligated to seek hospitalization for the client.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person, therapists are required to take protective actions which may include notifying the potential victim or contacting the police.
